Variety Description
The Red Onion ‘Red Amposta’ is a well-known Mediterranean variety that produces large, round bulbs with vibrant red skin and a naturally sweet flavour. The flesh is juicy, aromatic and excellent for salads and cooked dishes. Moreover, the variety offers uniform bulbs and reliable yields.
Growing Requirements
Red Amposta grows best in sunny locations and in well-drained soil. Moderate watering supports good bulb development. In addition, organic fertilization enhances colour and taste. The variety adapts well to different climates and performs reliably in both home gardens and professional fields.
Sowing and Planting
Sow from February to April. Transplant seedlings once they develop a solid root system. After planting, leave 25–30 cm between bulbs. Harvest begins when the leaves start to yellow and bend towards the ground.

The bulbs of Red Amposta are large, firm and bright red. Their flavour is sweet and mild, making them ideal for fresh consumption. They are also excellent for roasting, caramelizing and everyday cooking. Furthermore, they store well after harvest.
