Variety Description

The Cucumber ‘Tortarello Verde Scuro’ is a traditional Italian cucumber type known for its long, curved fruits and dark green colour. The skin is thin, while the flesh is crisp, juicy and naturally sweet. Moreover, the fruits remain tender and free of bitterness, even when harvested at larger sizes.

Growing Requirements

Tortarello Verde Scuro grows best in warm climates and in well-drained soil. Regular watering helps maintain tenderness and improves fruit quality. In addition, organic fertilization supports strong plant growth. Training the plants on trellises also improves fruit shape and length.

Sowing and Planting

Sow seeds from March to June. Transplant seedlings once temperatures stabilize. After planting, space the plants 50–70 cm apart. Harvest begins about 55–70 days after planting and continues gradually.

Fruit Characteristics

The fruits of ‘Tortarello Verde Scuro’ are long, slightly curved and deep green. Their flesh is crisp, aromatic and refreshing. This variety is ideal for fresh salads, raw consumption and Mediterranean recipes. The fruits also store well for several days after harvest.

Advantages

This variety offers excellent flavour, high fruit quality and good heat tolerance. It is easy to grow and suitable for both home gardens and professional cultivation.
