An annual warm-season crop producing tender green pods 8–12 cm long, with distinct flavor and high nutritional value. Okra seeds grow vigorous plants 60–150 cm tall, with thick stems, large lobed leaves, and yellow flowers.
Sow directly outdoors from April to June, once soil temperature exceeds 18°C. Prefers sunny, warm locations and fertile, well-drained soils with pH 6.0–7.5. Space 30–40 cm between plants and 70–80 cm between rows.
Harvest 45–55 days after sowing, while pods are still tender. Frequent picking promotes continuous flowering and fruiting. Okra is heat and drought tolerant, and an excellent source of vitamin C, calcium, and dietary fiber.
