An annual, warm-season climbing plant producing elongated fruits 30–60 cm long. When fully mature, the inner fiber structure transforms into a natural sponge, ideal for household or cosmetic use. Luffa seeds produce vigorous vines with large leaves and abundant flowering.
Sow from April to June, once soil temperature exceeds 20°C, either directly outdoors or in seedbeds. Prefers warm, sunny locations and fertile, well-drained soils with pH 6.0–7.5. Space 80–100 cm between plants and 100–120 cm between rows.
Harvest 50–60 days after sowing for tender fruits, or 120–150 days for sponge production. The plant is heat- and drought-tolerant, offering an eco-friendly crop with high ornamental and commercial value.
