This crop thrives in hot, sunny climates and prefers light, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. Sowing is carried out from March to May, either directly in the field or in seedbeds, once soil temperatures exceed 18°C. Recommended spacing is 80–100 cm between plants and 150–200 cm between rows. Fruits mature 70–80 days after sowing.
