Variety Description
The Tomato Marmande is a classic French variety known for its large, slightly flattened fruits with deep ribbing. Its flavour is rich and mildly sweet, while the texture is juicy and aromatic. Moreover, the plant grows vigorously and produces steadily through the season. It also tolerates heat well and adapts easily to different soils.
Growing Requirements
This variety performs best in sunny locations and well-drained soil. Regular watering helps develop firm, high-quality fruits. In addition, moderate organic fertilization improves flavour and yield. Pruning encourages stronger growth and increases the number of marketable fruits.
Sowing and Planting
Sow seeds from February to April. Transplant seedlings when they develop 4–6 true leaves. After that, leave 70–90 cm between plants for proper airflow. Harvest usually begins 75–85 days after transplanting and continues as the fruits ripen gradually.
Fruit Characteristics
The fruits are large, fleshy and bright red. Their taste is full and aromatic. Furthermore, Tomato Marmande is excellent for salads, sauces, bruschetta and many Mediterranean dishes.
