The White Turnip (Brassica rapa var. rapa) is a root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family, cultivated for its smooth, fleshy bulb and tender leaves. The white variety is recognized for its delicate sweetness, crisp texture, and uniform round roots. White Turnip seeds produce vigorous plants with strong foliage and high yield consistency.
This crop thrives in cool to mild climates and prefers light, fertile, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. Sowing takes place from February to May for spring harvests and from August to October for autumn–winter crops. Spacing should be 15–20 cm between plants and 30–40 cm between rows. Harvesting occurs 60–80 days after sowing, when roots reach 6–10 cm in diameter and remain tender.
Rich in vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and antioxidants, it is ideal for fresh salads, soups, or traditional dishes. The variety is cold-tolerant and has a short growing cycle, making it a reliable choice for both professional and home growers.
